Vendoring

SUMMER VACAY
is half underway and we're pretty much asleep, lmao.

If you haven't heard about it from the Mystery Email Maker already, Kira and Ardina have become actual street vendors. You can have them stock your work to sell! Sounds neat, yeah?

(Naturally, they'll be taking a 7-8% commission but pssssh. Details. It's really not much, anyway.)

If you're interested, there are some things to note. Here's a quick summary:

1. Along with carnival masks, they'll be selling prints. If you want to sell originals, please talk to them in person.
2. Do not frame your artwork.
3. You'll be paid at the end of each tax quarter. A portion of your earnings will be taken for city/state tax.
4. "If your work sells out before the quarter, you will get your cut then and will be asked to make more of your prints/art." For more details, talk to Kira and-or Ardina.
5. If you have a business card, it'll be displayed.

Remember! If your work is bad, your work will not get sold.

If you want to participate, contact us!

wattap~?

Hahaha... oops. Haven't been very diligent with the ongoings of the Factory; 'm sorry! Been alternatively busy and lazy, lol.

Hope everyone's break/holiday went well. :]

So today's workshop was canceled. Not sure if tomorrow's workshop is still on-schedule. Isn't the USG fair tomorrow? Gotta look that up.

Thursday's Social is definitely happening; same place, same time!

BE THERE. :D

o6. This Week

3.8:// Club Activities

So, midterms are pretty much hanging over our heads like a thick, ominous cloud of despair. Disgusting, isn't it? Take a break this Tuesday late-afternoon with the Factory!

We're calling it a 'workshop,' okay, but it's not really...? Because it's midterms, we've decided to stick with drawing for now-- it's very little hassle to bring your own paper and pens/pencils/whatever you use to draw.

>>> 2009 March 10
>>> Tuesday
>> the Painting Room
>>> 5.3O - 7 PM

*** This 'workshop' is pretty much a drawing session: still life, models (presenting various members, haha), manga-esque illustration or whatever inspires. This session is to get to know other people who draw or to improve your style by asking for pointers. ***

[PS - sorry about the tardiness last week. the P, VP and secretary (yours truly) were and are in the darkroom right before this so we were cleaning up.]

ALSO. This Thursday is the Factory's first Social: more informal and less pressured than a regular meeting, lol, and with free food.

>>> 2009 March 12
>>> Thursday
>> SRC Lounge
>>> 4.OO PM -ish

According to our mailing list, we're got a good number of people who are interested in the Factory (and/or) are a part of it. Only... most of you are just names on list! D: We'd like to see and get to know the faces attached to them.

Come to the Social to meet your Factory's officials and each other! Help us foster a stronger sense of community!

If you're an artist, bring some pieces you would like to share! If you're an art lover, come with some of your favorite names and pieces and meet others with similar tastes!
(if you read manga, you'll probably find a new friend in me, lol. I read a lot but I'm always on the lookout for more; recently I'm searching for good manhwa, so if you've got recs, please share! ...ahaha, this almost sounds like a personal...)

If you are even the slightest bit interested in the Social, please email us to let us know! There's a minimum body requirement to reserve the Lounge sooo... we really-kinda need to approximate this, haha.

See you there!

o5. Meeting Minutes

There was another meeting yesterday.

event-01// Workshop for Next Week

Because of midterms, next week we'll still be drawing. This time, however, we won't focus on still-life.

Some of us will model.

edit://

Also, the head of our Film Team, Andrey, is making a short film for Campus Movie Fest and needs female actors who are available next week:

> Tuesday after 5 PM
> Wednesday after 5.3O PM
> Thursday after 4 PM
> Free all Friday

The plot was discussed in this meeting. For more information, email Andrey at asyroyez -at- gmail or, if you are on our mailing list, contact us for his number. He looks forward to working with the interested. :)

>>> Wednesday
>>> HW 610
> 2.OO - 3 PM

:] Be there!

o3. Workshops, Wk 1

In case you haven't read the email yet, here's a relevant excerpt:

"This semester, we are going to try and have bi-weekly workshops in which we actively create art. Each week the workshops will have the same theme, so if you miss the first one, you can go to the second!"

This week's theme: DRAWING
(basic contour drawing, but I suppose you don't have to limit yourself to that.)

>>> MARCH 3
>>> Tuesday
>>> Painting Room 11099 HN
> 5.OO to 7 PM

To get to the painting room, get off on the 11th floor of HN, turn LEFT until you hit the bulletin board and turn left again. The room will be on your left side.

For the 2nd workshop:

>>> MARCH 4
>>> Wednesday
>>> Location TBA
> 1.OO - 3 PM

Friday, February 27, 2009

o2. Meeting Minutes

For those of you who missed it, The Factory had their first meeting of the spring semester. If you didn't know, that was yesterday at 4 PM in the SRC.

Our next meeting is next week. Let us know if you even think you can, cannot or might be able to make it!

>>> MARCH 5
>>>
Thursday
>>> SRC
>>> 4.OO PM

We covered several topics over the course of the meeting. In brief: workshops, spring exhibit, activity teams (actual terminology pending), crayon drive.

--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]

event-o1:// Workshops
Admittedly, last semester we weren't exactly cohesive as a club. What better way to rectify that with weekly fun stuff to do together?

Our plan is to hold 1-hour workshops twice a week, with one topic per week. The idea is that if you can't make it to one workshop, you can go to the other. :]

So far we've thought of drawing (models/still life), painting (acrylic one week, maybe watercolor the next), jewelry making, polyer clay sculpting and stop animation. But we need more suggestions!

Please, let your voice be heard and drop a comment if you have an idea! :)

At the moment, the current times for these workshops are:

>> TUESDAY @ 5.OO - 7 PM and
>> WEDNESDAY @ 1.OO - 3 PM

Let us know if your schedule won't allow for either.

event-o2:// Exhibit
Mentioned in the first post, this semester's spring project involved bring artistic joy and frenzy to a children's hospital ward. The idea is that we will each join forces with a kid and get to know them as they work on a crayon drawing. From that, we'll create a painting based on/inspired by the kid's original.

*The painting will be done on canvas in acrylic.

This is scheduled for the last week of March (24th to the 26th), so hopefully your midterms are over by then.

If you're interested or just have a comment, drop a line!

event-o3:// Crayon drive
Around next week, I think we'll be setting up crayon donation boxes in Hunter.

Donate crayons
! Give us your new, your used! Your whole or broken!

Spread the word to your friends~

clubinterest:// Teams!
We have several other projects we want to bring to life, but there's only so much we officials can do before we stretch ourselves too thin. So help! :) Let us know is you even have the slightest inclination to be involved with any of the below.

>>
'Zine
Zines are simple, home-made magazines. This is a prime opportunity to do some really light work and get your name (and the Factory's, lol) out there.

Every member is going to contribute one (1) page to this zine. Drawing, photography, collage, a photo of a painting: honestly it doesn't have to be fancy. (Though we do expect some degree of quality.) We'll be replicating it on your typical computer paper and staple it with the others and leave it around Hunter for the curious to look through!

The team for this would be responsible in making sure we get submissions, photocopying and collating the pages, putting the zine together and getting it circulated throughout Hunter. (Leave it on a table, in the flier slots, on a desk-- wherever it's legal and won't greatly inconvenience someone.)

>>
Flier Design
As anyone with half a brain knows, fliers are a big deal when you want to spread the news about club activities. This team is in charge of flier design. You want to exercise that interest in graphic design? Play around with fonts and free -distribution pictures and proclaim our planned events to the world!

>>
Film
For those interested in making movies, this team plans to open up and mod a youtube channel. :)
More details to come.

>> etc.
not concrete at all, but maybe there should be a team for fundraising? the president and the treasurer are the only ones who cane reserve tables, but the team would help a lot by taking care of the small details (selling baked goods, buying napkins, etc.)

and how about an art association team devoted to establishing good relations with other art clubs (ie.g. the Foto Club and the Film Club)?

Your ideas are appreciated, people~!

--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]--------[o:o:o:o:o]

so that's pretty much what we covered in yesterday's meeting.

ALSO. Maybe you don't know, but
we also have a twitter account:

http://twitter.com/FactoryArtClub

What else? Oh. There's this unpleasant business of our mailing list being (coughstolencough) ...leaked, though please be assured that this was not our intention. We deeply apologize for even letting that happen and will take steps to ensure that does not occur again. :-/ *** Just ask to be removed from the other party's mailing list if you do not intend to be a member of their club. ***

Until next time!
